Why We're Running
We're
running because we want to improve the quality of life in Precinct One.
We will focus our efforts on ensuring that Precinct One gets the services
it needs, including police patrols, parking enforcement, efficient snow
removal, park maintenance and renovation, and new street trees to replace
the ones that are being lost every year.
We're running because we are committed to Brookline's public schools. We favor making the investments necessary to maintain and improve the standard of excellence that Brookline residents expect from their schools. We will support efforts to extend the school day, improve the math and science curriculum, expand preschool offerings, and restore instruction in world languages in grades K-6.
We're running because we want to restore a positive tone to politics in Precinct One. Even when negative campaigning and "swift boating" are the order of the day in national politics, Brookline should maintain its tradition of respect and civility. We are appalled at the way that the bitter campaign against the Carlton Street Footbridge has led to personal attacks on Town officials like Tom DeMaio, commissioner of the Department of Public Works.
We're running because we want to represent ALL residents of Precinct One. This precinct includes residents of single-family homes, students, condominium owners, and apartment-dwellers. Our slate includes a parent with two children in the Brookline public schools, an architect who owns her condominium, a graduate student and a young professional who rent their apartments, and long-time residents who own their single-family homes. All deserve to have their voices heard. And all of our neighbors deserve Town Meeting representatives who will provide constituent service to everyone who calls us to ask for help with trash collection, snow removal, or parking issues. We promise to provide that constituent service.
We're running because we want to be active in neighborhood affairs and Town politics year-round. You won't just hear from us the week before election day. We'll maintain a high profile at meetings of the Planning Board, Transportation Board, and other Town boards and commissions whenever an item relevant to Precinct One is at the agenda. We'll hold neighborhood meetings to get input and inform people about what the Town is doing.
We're running because we think Precinct One residents should have Town Meeting Members who stand for the same political values and principles that Precinct One consistently votes for in state and national elections.
